With standard bodily functions, a self-developing conscience, and programmable with any existing mental disorder, she could be the perfect specimen for budding psychologists to train on without risk to flesh-and-blood, human patients. When Eliza is uploaded with a disorder sometimes mistaken for demonic possession, she begins to show frightening evidence of a dark entity within. As the ‘demon’ takes hold of their prize subject, the project group is left with a choice: Wipe all data from Eliza and start again. Or continue the project and see how deep their technological rabbit hole goes. But is the illness taking over Eliza’s consciousness really just a disorder?
